Arun Shourie, an Indian economist, journalist, author and politician

Arun Shourie, a native of Jalandhar, is the former Minister of Communications and Information Technology. Apart from being an alumnus of Modern School, Barakhamba, he gained his doctorate from Maxwell school of citizenship and public affairs in economics. He has also been the Member of Rajya Sabha consecutively for two years. Additionally, Shourie served as an economist for the World Bank for 10 years and also as a consultant for the Indian Planning commission. Furthermore, he was also an editor for some of the renowned media houses like The Times of India and Indian Express. Arun Shourie is famous for his writings. He has written many books like Hinduism: essence and consequence, Symptoms of fascism. In the year 2000, he contributed an amount of 120 million rupees for setting up Bio-sciences and Bio-engineering department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He has also been awarded Ramon Magsaysay Award and the Padma Bhushan.
