It is one of the most respected medical destinations in India and internationally. CMC aims to bring high quality health care to those who need it the most – wherever they live. The central strategy in this vision is to develop, through education and training, compassionate, professionally excellent, ethically sound, servant-leaders in health care. The Christian Medical College Vellore (CMC) is ranked amongst the topmost medical colleges in India and offers an extensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate and higher speciality courses in medicine, nursing, allied health sciences and related disciplines.

The Medical College Campus on the southern outskirts of Vellore city is a two hundred-acre wooded site at the foot of College Hill. Built in 1932, it remains, as originally envisaged, a residential community where students and staff can study and reside in serene and beautiful surroundings. The central college chapel opens on to a sunken garden and connects with the Women’s Hostel and various classrooms through peaceful stone corridors. Interspersed among the tall trees and winding roads are other hostels, the Scudder Auditorium, administrative, teaching and research facilities, staff residences, guest houses.

The Department of Library Services of Christian Medical College was established in early 1960’s and thus serve the medical community.  The library functions in two different location. The Dodd Memorial Library at the Hospital campus and the Gault Library in the College campus at Bagayam. The library uses the National Library of Medicine Classification (NLM) for Medical Books and the Library of Congress classification (LC) for General books for stack arrangements. Resources could be searched using the library Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). The library portal includes access to full-text electronic journals databases, a collection of e books, Abstracts of the Thesis, the Institutional Repositories and other web-based portals and links.
