Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW)
Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) has been upgraded from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology in May 2013 via Delhi State Legislature Act 9, 2012, as a non-affiliating teaching and research University at Delhi to facilitate and promote studies, research, technology, innovation, incubation and extension work in emerging areas of professional education among women, with focus on engineering, technology, applied sciences, management and its allied areas with the objective to achieve excellence in these and related fields. The Vision of IGDTUW is to make India a Knowledge Society and Knowledge Economy by empowering the women of our country through education in Engineering, Science, Management and Technology. To become one of the top technical Universities in the country known for its value based, quality technical education supported with industry relevant research, with focus on environmental and social issues.
The university offers undergraduate Bachelor of Technology courses in four different fields, namely Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology and Mechanical and Automation Engineering. It also offers undergraduate Bachelor Of Architecture course. Postgraduate courses include a Master of Computer Applications and Master of Technology in Information Security management, VLSI Design, Mobile and Pervasive Computing and Robotics and Automation, as well as a Ph.D. For BTech courses students are selected through Joint Admission Counseling(JAC) (based on IITJEE MAINS rank). Other members of JAC are NSIT Delhi, DTU Delhi and IIIT-D.
A number of societies and clubs are active on the campus and are managed by the students. The campus also host various student events and festivals. Each component of the festival or event is organized and executed by the students. The SPIC-MACAY chapter has been recently added to promote the Indian classical music and culture amongst youth. Games and sports are organized through the Sports Club. The campus is equipped with multipurpose sports grounds and a number of outdoor sports can be played. The University has two women hostels – Krishna Hostel and Kaveri Hostel, to accommodate approximately 300 students.These two hostels are located in the University campus. These hostels provide a safe, secure and clean environment for the students to grow, learn and mature in the society away from their own homes.
